At Ijzerwerck, various products are handcrafted using a range of techniques. The process that gives a product the most character is forging. In this process, a random piece of iron (or metal) is heated in a fire. We use both a traditional coal fire and a propane furnace. This technique of metalworking dates back thousands of years, to around 3000 BC when people began extracting and working with metals.

For each handmade product in the webshop, careful consideration is given to functionality and proportions beforehand. This is then developed into a sketch, which serves as a guide during production. For larger pieces, drawings are also made directly on the workshop floor to achieve a 1:1 comparison with the item to be produced.

For finishing, various options are available, such as oil, stove polish, beeswax, or an industrial finish like paint or powder coating, depending entirely on the function and characteristic appearance it should have. If you have a specific request for a certain product, we can provide you with a proposal based on a particular design.

All products that leave our workshop have been thoroughly tested in advance for durability and functionality.
